Petrohawk has power

November 04, 2009
TOPICS: In the news
Arthur Berman, the Sugar Land, Texas, consultant who made headlines when he said production from shale plays may not be the long-term answer to the country's energy woes, is out of a job at World Oil Magazine, and he claims it was pressure from Petrohawk Energy that ended his tenure as a contributing writer.

On his personal blog, Berman wrote that he resigned from the magazine after an executive from Houston-based Petrohawk Energy, an OIPA member company, pressured editors to kill his monthly column

From Berman's Nov. 2 blog post:

In an act of extraordinary courage, a top Petrohawk executive threatened to cancel his free subscription to "World Oil" if the magazine continued to publish my column. Today, John Royall, President and CEO for Gulf Publishing, cancelled my November column.

I have accordingly resigned as contributing editor.

Petrohawk spokeswoman Joan Dunlap said it is "doubtful" comments made by Petrohawk caused Berman's downfall. Instead, she said it was more likely the result of a "history of inconsistent data gathering and poorly supported opinions."
